Lucky escape for Lithuanian students

The Eiffel Tower was evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after a back pack was found abandoned on the top floor of the famous tourist venue.

Two students who were in the tower right before finding the bag share their experiences.

High school students Kamile Stasyte and Auguste Chocianaite started their journey in Lithuania with a group of 30 people. Their final destination was France, la tour Eiffel being the icing on the cake.

Right after visiting the famous monument girls got back to the bus and were told that the authorities began investigating the place. “We were in a slight shock after being told what had happened,” added Kamile Stasyte.

“As far as I remember, the guide told us that another group of tourists was not allowed to go in to the Eiffel Tower. The rest of the people who were in the building were asked not to overreact and calmly get out of there,” claimed Auguste.

People’s awareness of the threat was slight. While not knowing if the danger was real, security tried to avoid unsubstantiated assumptions.

Nevertheless, in couple of hours the officials announced that the alarm was false. The back pack that was found on one of the floors of the tower was only a lost item of one tourist.

“I was frightened. There could have been a real bomb. No one knew if it was only a gossip or a real thing. This was the moment when we realised the fragility of our lives, “remembers Kamile.
